Every person is characterized by a very specific body odor. But what if it smells incredibly strong, does not disappear despite washing and leads to great inconvenience?

Contrary to popular belief, it’s not just sweat that causes unpleasant body odor. The unpleasant body odor arises rather when the sweat mixes with bacteria. These odor causing bacteria multiply very quickly and grow well in a warm and humid environment. They cause an unusual, pungent odor, increase sweat production, night sweats and cold hands.

Lack of hygiene, nutrient deficiency, hormonal changes, gastrointestinal problems such as chronic constipation, genetic metabolic disorders, liver disease and diabetes are among the most common causes of unpleasant body odor.

The most important measure of unpleasant body odor is good hygiene. In addition, simple home remedies help to get rid of unpleasant body odor naturally, to reduce excessive sweating and to better control the growth of the bacteria.


Wheatgrass contains a lot of chlorophyll, which is especially beneficial against strong body odor. Chlorophyll stimulates detoxification processes in the body, helps to flush pollutants out of the body and has a deodorizing effect.

Simply mix 1 teaspoon of wheatgrass powder in a glass of water and drink the juice every morning on an empty stomach. The dosage can be increased over time. Repeat the application daily until the body odor disappears.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar removes bacteria from the skin. It helps to neutralize the pH of the skin, thereby reducing body odor.

Simply dip a cotton ball into apple cider vinegar and rub it on your forearms. Leave for 2 to 3 minutes and then take a shower. Repeat twice daily (morning and evening before bedtime).

To additionally stimulate the inner detoxification of the body, apple cider vinegar water should be drunk daily. To do this, mix 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink 2 times a day before a meal.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is especially effective against strong body odor. Its acidity helps to lower the pH of the skin, making it difficult for the odor-causing bacteria to survive.

Cut a lemon in half and rub half of your forearms with one half. The juice should penetrate into the skin. Allow the juice to dry on the skin and then take a shower. Repeat the application daily until the odor completely disappears.

In addition, warm lemon water should be drunk on an empty stomach in the morning. Mix the juice of half a lemon in a cup with warm water and drink.

Note: For sensitive skin, the lemon juice should be diluted before use on the skin. For that, squeeze half a lemon and mix with half a cup of water. Dip a cotton ball into the mixture and rub it with your forearms.

Baking Powder / Soda

Baking soda acts as a natural deodorant. It helps to absorb moisture from the skin and thereby better wick away sweat. It also kills bacteria and reduces unpleasant body odor.

Simply mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice and apply this mixture to the forearms and body parts where sweating is the most common. Let it work for a few minutes and then wash it off with water (do not scrub it!). Then take a shower or take a bath. Repeat the application daily for several weeks in a row.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil has antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It helps to kill the existing, harmful bacteria on the skin and thereby eliminate unpleasant body odor. Tea tree oil also has astringent properties, which makes it easier to control sweating.

Simply mix 2 drops of tea tree oil with 30ml of water and pour into a spray bottle. The solution can be used daily as a deodorant.

Note: For sensitive skin, tea tree oil should be avoided.


Rosemary inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria. It contains plenty of menthol and chlorophyll, which have natural deodorant properties and help to neutralize strong body odor. At the same time, they give the body a pleasant scent.

Rosemary also contains plenty of zinc. A zinc deficiency can cause unpleasant body odor.

Simply mix half a cup of dried rosemary leaves into one liter of hot water, infuse for 10 minutes, and add the mixture to the bath water. Enjoy the bath for 15 to 20 minutes and then dry the skin well. Repeat the application once a day.


Sage reduces sweat gland activity and acts as an antibacterial agent. It helps to prevent the growth of bacteria on the skin and eliminate body odors.

With other essential oils can be made from sage a natural deodorant. For this:

  • Add 5 drops of essential sage oil, 5 drops of essential coriander oil, 5 drops of lavender essential oil and 60 ml of distilled
  • Hamamelis water to a spray bottle and mix well.
  • Use this mixture daily as a deodorant.

To increase the effect of sage, it is also possible to drink sage tea. Put 1 teaspoon of dried sage into a cup of hot, boiled water and leave for 10 minutes. Then strain the leaves and drink a maximum of 2 cups per day.

There are several home remedies to eliminate unpleasant body odor. In addition to the home remedies, it is important to drink enough water and to eat nutrients. Often, a poor diet creates a build up of toxins in the body, resulting in unpleasant body odors.
